Thing-a-Day - 12/28 - Grimoire
Leather Covered Grimoire

I am stoopid pleased with today's Thing.

Handmade book, with paper pages handstitched with linen thread, wool felt endpages, and a green suede leather cover over oak cover boards. The closure is a strip of leather, glued under the front endpage, wrapped around the book and tucked under itself.

The pages, being printer paper are mostly blank...

"But, Eithni!" you say, "One cannot have a grimore without magic! Where is the magic in a blank book?!?!?!"

The magic is in fact hiding after about page 20. :)

My iPhone neatly fits inside. :)

Geek-tastic.

Win! Win! Win!

Now go to bed before I march over and hit you with some stolen morphine or something. Sleep! Sleep! Heal thyself!

Yes, ma'am! ;)

(I just have to finish posting at Thing-a-day and then fix the short and I am off to bed. Promise.)

Is it a printed image or a space cut in the book for which to hide the device? I can't tell from the pics.
eithni: excellenteithni on February 13th, 2009 04:31 am (UTC)
It's a space just big enough from my iPhone.

Also, the third picture is the picture I have in my head of "I have a secret and it's a good one!" Eithni, which comes with accessories like the book (shown) and awesome fiber stuffs.

Huh, I would have just put a flask in it...but your idea is great, too! :-)
eithni: greeneithni on February 13th, 2009 05:19 pm (UTC)
See, I don't feel the need to hide the *flask*... or when I do, a mug neatly fixes that problem. The dorkPhone was more of an issue. ;P

Wow. I've always wanted to make one of those... of course, I'd always pictured stashing jewelry and things... how boring of me!

That's brilliant. Should I ever actually *get* fun technology, I'll be comin' to see you for the how-to!
eithni: sofonisbaeithni on February 15th, 2009 09:16 pm (UTC)
It's actually pretty simple - make a block of pages like you wold for a normal book (or buy a pre-made book), glue enough pages together to be as deep as the item, plus a little bit, mark a space just a bit bigger than the item you desire to hide, then spend some quality time with a metal ruler and an Exact-o knife. Cut several pages at a time, pull out the centers to be discarded, repeat. Once you get the first 20-30 pages cut, you have a good frame going and should no longer need the ruler. Cut, cut, cut until you have your space cleared out. Done!
