Fun with Eithni at Quest for Camelot!
Here's my plan for Quest:

Friday I will be mucking about with Norse foods. I've bought a bunch of period-appropriate ingredients, I'll be bringing my cooking implements of doom, and you should join me if you way to play or just want to chatter at me while I cook. I'm not sure where we'll be camped, but I'll feed you Norse snackies if you find me.

Saturday will be the teach-y day. I am teaching a string class at 1:30PM and will be doing a library roadshow at 3PM (see descriptions below). I'm planning on bringing a selection of fiber arts toys and my Elizabethan books. If you have anything in particular you would like to see, either fiber-wise or book-wise, let me know and I'll try to bring along appropriate resources for you. Also, let me know if you want a private session of any of my classes and I'll do my best to get you in sometime on Saturday.

See you Friday!

Fiber fun with Eithni!
Eithni will have kits and teaching handouts for a variety of fiber-related crafts and the topic(s) taught will depend on the students' interests. Come learn about handsewing... or whipcording... or natural dyes... or fabric content identification... or bring your questions and we'll see what trouble we can get into!
time: 1 hour (or more if there is interest)
size limit: no
fee: depends on kits - from free to $12
all materials provided

Research Library Roadshow
Come see some of the hard-to find books that are so useful in research. Eithni will be bringing a selection from her library, including Elizabethan treasures like "Queen Elizabeth's Wardrobe Unlock'd" and the Janet Arnold books. If there is a topic or book you are particularly interested in, please contact her in advance to see what can be made available.
time: 1 hour (or more if there is interest)
size limit: no
fee: no
Please come with clean hands. A notebook and/or digital camera may be useful.

Oooo...what Norse snackies are you planning on making?
eithni: Pictisheithni on May 12th, 2009 02:23 pm (UTC)
Hazelnuts, walnuts, weird fruits, breads from weird grains, weird fruit spreads for on said bread, cheese made on site, turnips/parsnips/other suspicious root vegetables, porridge with stuff in it. I went to the grocery store and just bought a pile of Norse-appropriate items and will be playing to see if I can make them edible.

What time period? And what source are you looking at? Enquiring minds want to know...
eithni: Pictisheithni on May 12th, 2009 03:08 pm (UTC)
I'm going for ~9th century, but playing it sort of loose. Sources include: Oseberg ship burial, some grave breads, extrapolations from my Pictish bread, stuff from the Viking Answer Lady, stuff from a class last year at Pennsic, pollen studies... A little bit of everything.

May one request a post-Snackie update (with gory details), either here, or in your keep?

Thank you : )

Mmm...sounds good. I wish I could make it. ;_; You'll have to tell me about how your experiments went.

I wish we were going to quest this year but we have a fiber festival to go to on Sat and a scribal thing on sunday. All fun but not in the north sadly.

Have fun!
