Holy Buckets!
A nice website on Anglo-Saxon Buckets!

**************

I stumbled on that site because I WANT a bucket and have been looking around for a reasonably priced, but functional bucket. Good gods, there are a lot of "decorative" buckets out there. For my reference and yours, some of the sites with "real" buckets and associated items:

Probably the best one is at Panther, on their Christmas list. Bonus - it comes with a lid!

Others:
Custom Wagons - Pine buckets, oak buckets, butter churns
AmishCraft - oak bucket
Smoke and Fire - pine waxed bucket
Bucket outlet - oak barrels
Amish Shop - buckets - not sure if these are decorative
Bratcher Cooperage - oak bucket
Colonial Trading - buckets and butter churns

Sadly, not many of them are "reasonably" priced. Or maybe I'm just cheap. *sigh*

Sadly, good buckets will be spendy - the woodworking involved is actually not trivial (I say as one who looked into making a bucket a few years ago, and decided that it looked like too much of a hassle).

Yeah, I knew handmade buckets would be spendy, but I was sort of hoping somewhere out there there was a bucket-making company that had automated it, making it cheaper. :P

Wait--are you saying you WANT a machine-made wooden bucket? Ye gods, who are you and what have you done with Eithni?

No, I WANT a perfectly period oak bucket with all the elaborate metal fittings. What I thought Would fall into the price range I could justify SPENDING was a bucket of the manufactured sort. :p tragically entirely different items.

It's not as though you can just trot down to the cooperage any more and just pick one of them up. Ah, lost arts.

You can have my bucket.

I just had my hands on it right before I saw your post so I figure it was meant to be. I'll bring it to Boar's head for you unless you want it before then. I don't think it's water tight but it's free so if it doesn't suit your purpose you can still buy one.

I won't be at Boars Head this year (wedding obligation), but you could send it with Mr S. :)

if it's not water-tight, I can also try sealing it with beeswax. :)

thanks!

Won't be a Boars Head? Sadness...

Yeah, Chandler and Sarra tried to avoid conflicting with BH, but failed. :/ Real life takes priority.

I've ordered stuff through smoke and fire in the past and they sell high quality products. They usually have a booth a Pennsic.
