Magical Medical Mystery Girl

So, I went to the doctor's today since my wrist has been bugging me for months and I couldn't figure it out. It hurts/gives out with a combination of pressure/weight and turning. MD's verdict: Not sprained, not broken, not tendonitis, not carpal tunnel. She finally asked if I had any theories which, if I had, I would not have been in her office. :P Talk about a wasted copay... So, OT consult for me, but not until mid-September, of course.

Defective wrist, return to manufacturer under a warranty claim to get a new one.

No, they said I voided my warranty a long time ago, otherwise I would have applied for a new body a LONG time ago...

Cyst? I forget the name for it - there's a specific type - but I and a couple of my cousins occasionally would get one in the wrist. It made it ache like carpal tunnel and I couldn't put weight on it at certain angles. It went away by itself. I talked to a doc to have it removed, but it's considered "cosmetic" as the cyst will arrive and disappear on its own and even if they surgically remove it, it might come back.

It eventually went away and I've not another since, but it was awfully obnoxious.

Hmmm... Possible, since there was no precipitating injury, it just started acting up one day.

Maybe... I'll have to wait and see if it resolves before the PT appointment.

Another option would be to see a chiropractor, I had terrible trouble with my wrists til I got my neck fixed. :/

Maybe if I get desperate, but that's a little further afield than I really can accept a chiropractor is likely to be able to fix. :P

Oh, but don't forget, we have the best health care system in the world and it's unpatriotic to complain about it...

Hang in there and, in the meantime, feel free to give me a ring if you have any heavy lifting that needs to be done.

ha ha ha. You're so funny. :P

Thanks for the offer and I'll let you know if anything comes up...

I have a bad habit of tucking my hands under my chin with my wrists at an odd angle when I sleep. It would be painful during the day, inhibit use, and come and go, generally better in the evenings. I occasionally wear a brace to prevent the habit while sleeping, and my fiance knows to pull my arm straight if he sees it. :/ I'm sorry I can't be more help.

huh. Maybe I'll have to check into that. Thanks!

How's your dad? I have not seen an update. On another topic, let me know when you and Baron will be in town and looking for minionage, I have a few ideas of projects. :)

Do you have any swelling? I know MY wrist condition is De Quervain's Tendinitis, but my OTHER joints occasionally suffer from pseudo gout brought on by hypothyroidism. Hooray for unexpected calcium deposits! :P
eithnieithni on August 23rd, 2010 02:13 pm (UTC)
Nope. Just pain when it's over used or I try to lift-and-twist with heavy things.

Arthritis?
or one of a zillion other joint conditions? OK

Re: Arthritis?
maybe not a zillion but there are a lot of little known conditions out there. Van was lucky enough to have Viking's disease http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dupuytren%27s_contracture#Symptoms
