Thing-a-day - Days 16-23

OK, so I am behind with posting, even weekly. :P

Day 16 - Hatbox
iarroganti has a tall bowler hat that is just too tall for a normal hatbox. He also tends to travel with a lot of jewelry, accessories and, well, stuff. So, I made him a hatbox! We started with a Eukanuba dog biscuit tin, about 14″ high and 12″ diameter. I primed it, then painted it with a hammered gold finish. Then I lined it with burgundy felt, put a mirror in the lid (felt, purchased mirror), made compartments for the bottom (mat board and electrical tape), a false bottom (mat board), and a felt-covered foam pad for pins and earrings to be stuck into (closed-cell foam, felt). Voila! A hatbox and organizer!

Day 17, 18, 19, 20 - Child's Apron Dress
Miss Em needed a real Viking dress... Wool fabric, linen embroidery, purchased buttons, handsewn.

Day 21 - Sewing Kit
Miss Em is almost two years old, so it's time to put that bebe to work! We started to teach her to sew with a set of plastivc canvas and yarn. :)

Day 22 - Naalbinding
So, it took me forever to finish the first naalbinding sock, but see, a girl has two feet, so a second one is in order.

Day 23 - Pictish hood
Pictish hood based on the St Andrews Hood. Brown and cream wool, linen thread, purchased cotton trim, all handsewn.

Heh. You've hit on the joke. Most Pictish women are shown with a shawl covering their torso. This has lead some to suppose that there was no shirt or upper tunic on women's clothes, since we do not see them. This has lead me to counter-propose that Pictish women had no arms, since we don't see those either. :D

Oh, oh I see! I mean, I don't see, but I see. What I mean is...

Perfect execution. :D
