Cleaning up and catching up...
I have been oddly discontent lately. I think a lot of it has to do with the messes and unfinished things in my life. Some of them I can fix, others not so much, but I think getting some things off my desk, literally and figuratively, will be good for me.

Earlier this week I prepped the third bedroom for a new roommate and was looking at that nice, clean room with approval and the giant mess in my TV room with horror when I decided I should start with the physical messes around the house. I've been looking at staged homes for sale, partly lusting after the no-shoveling parts of condo ownership and partly, I think, lusting after all that open space. I need to get rid of clutter and that means getting rid of some stuff, but I think that will be good...

I started with the kitchen, and the wide expanses of *clean* seemed to do my heart good. Much of the living room is now cleaned up from the holiday disasters and I mailed off the last of the Twelfth Night gifts today ( >:/ bad monkey - they got buried and forgotten! but better late than never, I suppose...). Yesterday it was mostly work on the living room and re-organizing my needleart supplies. Mmmmm... new little plastic bins... new little plastic bins with neatly printed labels from my labler... Sexy... Today it was a bit of a slacker day - I've had a headache all week and so spent most of the evening working through my read-then-recycle pile in between putting coats of paint on my new house number sign. Tomorrow will be a day of tidying, the installation of a shiny new front door, and some small projecting.

Once the house is acceptably clean, I still have a lot on my project list. I think I will make a concerted effort to attack that list in the Thing-a-Day Challenge in February (just about a week from now - yipes!). For those new to the concept, it is a challenge to do something creative every day - a little project, a poem, a painting, whatever... Anyone care to join me?

I think I'd like to! I need a kick in the junk- this funk has lasted long enough. :)

Yay! It's always better when one has friends to play with!

Oddly enough I had the same "this clutter has to GO" bug last weekend, and made huge progress in cleaning the apartment. I am really pleased with the progress, even though there's a lot left to do. It's always a good sign when you walk in and your first thought is "who stole all my stuff???" :)

Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who lusts after well-labeled new plastic bins....

when we moved, I got rid of all of my little bins and bought all new so they matched.

:D I wish I could, but there are just so durn many... I've settled for each section of the house having it's own style. That is also a cue to me when something is put back in the wrong spot.

I always get rather cranky when the house is a mess.

I have also lusted after open spaces a lot lately--possibly all of those glossy apartment-hunt photos. I tried to use the move as a reason to declutter, but of course towards the end everything just gets shoved into bins. I'm hoping to do some mental tidying up as I work on the last of the unpacking in the next week or so. I hope that tackling some of the low-level, physical annoyances will make me feel more capable of tackling bigger issues.

Obviously I've been spending too much time over on Facebook, since my first response was to clicky-clicky on the "Like" button...

I think I am on the thing a month plan, just big things... :)

Neverending List
Cleaning always makes me feel better too. Still need to work on the office and "craft" room and we're completely redesigning our basement... which requires painting the floor and lots of other things.

Oh, and I think grad school restarting will give me enough things to do a day without adding more ... the small/medium level two projects I'm working on, and the large one I have planned for after it are going to be taking up the between times.... maybe in a few years. ;)

We'll see how the next couple of weeks play out - I might be on the home improvement a day plan...
