Ooooh! Shiny! (Viking silver braids)
About two years ago, I first ran into these really lovely silver wire braids that were apparently sometimes used as hem and fabric decorations on Viking clothing. They are not the same as the trichinopoly wire weaving technique, but  can use some of the same stitches. I was fascinated, but had not yet had time to investigate further.

Today, relativelylucid  sent me a link to Silberknoten, the webpage of a lady in Germany who is recreating these braids and has posted close up pictures of originals. Mmmm.... So tasty! Go look! Really!

That's neat! Also, it amuses me that the woman pictured on the website looks, from the pic on the frontpage at least, like she could be your long-lost sister. Hrm... *could* your sister have been switched with a random German baby? It would explain a lot...

Heh. I thought she looked vaguely familiar and now that you say it, one as to wonder... she does the same hand thing I do, actually... :D

Annoying quibble - she lives in Germany, not Denmark.
