Oh, for Pete's sake...
So apparently the rumor on teh intarwebz this morning is that I was *charging* for my veil stitch class. Let me be publicly clear about it - the class was free and I did not have a donation hat of any sort. Some folks were amused by the "busking" conceit and offered me a dollar, which I always initially refused and, if they insisted, stashed into my materials box so as not to appear to be soliciting additional tips. There were a few folks who bought my handsewing kit or Pictish/Norse class notes (which I did not have actively out for sale, just some extras in my bag from my classes) but the rolled hem instruction, handout, and practice kit were free to all.

Thanks to the folks who brought this concern to my attention.

And for the record - the directions are posted on my website: Eithni's Magic Veil Stitch.

Everyone who knows you knows that information was a mistake.

Yeah, unfortunately, while I know a LOT of people, I don't know EVERYONE on teh intarwebz. :P

It seems that at least the primary source of the rumor has been corrected, but once that sort of thing is out there, the rumor mill carries scandal much faster than truth.

People try to give me money for Coffee Bar. I'm very insistent: Coffee Bar does NOT accept money. (That would be Food Sales and I *don't* have a food seller license.) People have donated supplies to the bar, and that's fine. And for the few people who have *insisted* they have to give me dollars, I do "The Cleavage Dance" for them and they can pay my breasts for the dance. It amuses me, amuses my audience, and I can honestly say that I'm occasionally "A Paid Professional Dancer." *giggle*

's one of the reasons I always barter tech svcs. Far easier that way. However, you're providing a service for me and I do not mind paying for it.

I'm confused, why is it a problem if you were? You were providing a kit, a few dollars would not be amiss. It's awesome you have the resources to hand the stuff out for free, but people who can't, shouldn't be punished for sharing their knowledge.

I think it was the money-for-teaching aspect (not the money-for-handouts) in an SCA venue, as opposed to a non-volunteer organization like a community ed class.

Well, the kit itself was a 4 square inch scrap of linen from my stash (since I'm a hoarder), a needle, length of thread, and 1/4 sheet of paper - maybe $0.25 of materials each? I think the originator thought I was charging even to learn the stitch, whether or not a handout or kit was used.

The handsewing kits with the good materials ran $7-15, since those included expensive items.

And the Magic of Eithni spreads across the Knowne World... I swear more folks are wearing veils now, just due to this alone!

Now if I could just figure out what size, etc to make one, and how the heck to WEAR the darned thing, I'd be all set!

Bwahahaha! Hahahaha!

Stop that, you're giving away the Evil Plot! I don't generally wear a veil since I am a wicked and apostate Pict, but I approve of veil-wearing and have a horror of exposed serging. :P

People were misinformed and have been corrected.

Oh, for Pete's sake...
As it happens, I scared up the veil stitch handout easily on my own, and this is surely a temptest in a teapot.
