Friday, since I was already in Bemidji, I had the luxury of hanging out with the Orlova Dolina folks and helping set up the event. As with A&R's coronation, they completely outdid themselves. There was a little stage made to look like a little house and the strange murals on the walls were covered by huge striped "sails" on a scaffolding. I helped lace up the sails and ended up being the one going up on the ladder (something I have a bit of a phobia about) since the other lady helping was even less appropriate for climbing up there. It's just a little thing, but I was proud of myself... At some point, one of the OD folks mentioned that all they needed was a bear rug to make the Court Hall look perfect. Even I don't carry around a bear rug, but I did have a giant black sheepskin, so that was laid out to complete the picture. Then we set up the  royal/meeting room and sat around waiting for folks to arrive. It was nice to just sit and chat and work on my new project. Dinner was out at Brigit's Cross, the local Irish pub. Sorcha and I split two sammiches so we could each try two options on the menu - very tasty, but the dark chocolate cake was the star of the meal. :D Then I stayed up late chatting with folks before setting in for the night.

Saturday started waaaay early since breakfast was served from 7:30-8:30AM. :P Then there were the usual Coronation festivities before lunch, where I was lucky enough to be when they put Kenric on vigil for the Pelican. Shortly afterward, I was even more lucky to be asked to speak for him in his Peerage ceremony. Before long, it was 2PM and time for my class, then 3PM and time for the A&S competition. I had the cutest A&S prop evah - Miss Em tried out my little Viking toddler's chair. She sat there pretty happily munching on either a Trondheim horse or one of gwyneth1362 's oatcakes for about half an hour or so before being done with that. Her momma let her hang out with me for awhile, so she stuck around and modeled the little tunic I made for her.

After the A&S, it was very shortly time for court. I stood near the back, entertaining Em who was playing with her little yodeling squirrel doll. At one point, a lady was called into court and while she was not in the hall, she was on site, so someone ran to get her while her husband was asked to entertain the crowd. He faltered and Master Cad kindly "helped" by concocting a story about a little boy lost in a forest and encountering various armed figures. When a spearman (Mortin) was called upon to be a boar squirrel hunter, mightyjesse  was a bad lady and took Em's toy away and handed it to me, which was pretty much just pulling the pin on the grenade. I squeezed him to start the yodeling and then called "incoming!" before chucking him to the front of court. Happily, it skidded to a stop right in front of the characters and was attached to the spear to the howls of the crowd. Success! Morton Squirrel-slayer!

I was the last to speak for Kenric but it did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. So much of what I had wanted to say was said by one or more of the other representatives, so I tried to riff a little and so was not as smooth as I would have liked. I also got a little choked up for some reason, which didn't really help. Ah, well. Delightful man and I am most pleased for him... Then there was a lovely feast and a night out drinking, talking, and otherwise being foolish at the local resort.

I completely overslept on Sunday - we were leaving when they were coming around to check the cabins, so at least I was not an impediment to the clean-up. The drive home was long, but beautiful - the trees were just starting to change and it was a gorgeous day for a drive. A stop in Eau Claire for dinner with Vlad and Wyndreth made the trip longer, but more fun... Then it was on to th elast leg home to Madison - however good the week had been, it was so very nice to spend the night in my very own bed!

Delightful. Thanks for the pictures and the narrative. I was thrilled to hear about Kenric and Berwyn. And Miss Em makes a terrific Viking toddler.

Despite you knowing that you were ad-libbing more than you wanted to, from this side, your speaking for Kenric was just fine.
