Black Hours
I adore the Black Hours and other dark-grounded manuscripts (shocking, I know) . They have been under discussion on one of my lists and I'm reposting them here for general enjoyment and future reference. Also - attention dance/music geeks - one of them is a dance manual!

excerpt from MS 493 (Morgan Library)
I got to see this one up close! Sadly, no photograpy, but lots of geeking staring... and trying to keep the drool off the case.

illuminated pages from the Vienna Codex (Codex Vindobonensis)

excerpt from Vat Lat 9488 (Vatican Library)

The Dancing Book of Margaret of  Austria (Livre de danses de Marguerite d'Austriche).
The Library of Congress has the entire original accessible online.

Some pictures of mourning hours:

Also: The Hours of Mary of Burgundy, which is only a partial black book.

Mmmm... now I want to work on C&I. I'll get a chance on Sunday, happily. :)
