Good days...
Good gods, thing have been busy! Busy, but good!

Last Thursday was sort of full of fail - I was supposed to be all productive, but due to a series of cancellations and some work issues that followed me home and leaked all over Thursday AND Friday, I was more super-scattered than super-productive. :P

Friday, I dealt with the last of my work issues, visited my old workplace, ran some errands, and hit the road. My rider was a little pokey and I had to negotiate campus during commencement/moveout weekend in order to go get him, so I left Madison later than expected, but this meant I had time to stop by Mediterranean Grill while I waited for him... Completely made up for it! Mmmmm... Schwarma. Somehow lamb and baklava cure all ills. There was only one ugly spot on the road, but I knew about it and so we just detoured around it on country roads - probably still faster and infinitely less annoying. I managed to drop off the first leg of the trip rider and get to the pick up site for my second leg of the trip rider before they got home, so I got a nice little nap in the car. When I awoke, he was home and we were shortly on our way. However, first there was a little detour - I was unaware of Ax-Man, essentially a surplus store like American Science and Surplus, but in Minneapolis. Excellent! I tried to be efficient, really I did... but... gizmos! hazmat bags! glasswear! things that go ping! Unsurprisingly, we got to Fargo after the hot tub was closed and everyone else was already in bed, so I headed to bed.

Saturday was Crown Tourney, which was pretty typical for a crown. There were some really great fights, though. Check out this one - titled duck-duck-good - the good part is at about 20 seconds in. In the end, Sir Vlad was the victor and now the lovely petranella  is our new Princess. The site was a little small, but it had two huge pluses - an ice cream shop next door and a VFW pub in the basement. Brilliant!

After the event, spot1111 , iarroganti and I got together and crashed the zombie pub walk... as scientists to study the zombies! It was a riot! We had beef jerky for bait and tags for marking the zombies we logged. Hi-larious.

Sunday's ride home was uneventful, other than a stop at SR Harris to pick up silk forilaifire, but sunny and pleasant. The problem with driving alone, though, is that I tend to put in folktunes or SCA CDs and this leads to two things - speeding and filking. :P Cruise control keeps the former in check but the latter, well, at least there are no witnesses. ;)

And, just when I thought life could not be better - the lilacs alongside my house are in bloom.

Yay for a weekend of WIN!!!!

Lilacs are one of my favorite fragrance flowers. I was sad because mine were so few, early and affected adversely by all the rain we've been getting. The rain has also made my irises not be completely happy. :( Oh well... there's always next year to look forward to. :)

Scientists studying zombies. Awesome.

I'm thrilled that Ax-man still exists! I remember that store fondly from my childhood as the place there my dad would bring me when he was shopping for oddball electronic components. I, being bitsy, shopped for oddball toys... I probably still have the six identical not-quite-right star wars bounty hunter figures that I somehow persuaded my dad to let me have... sniff... I should return there the next time I'm in the cities. =>

I'll have to go again some time when I have more time, but it was splendid. If you need a fix, there's an American Science and Surplus in Chicago.

Oooh! That's right! Somehow I always think of them as a Milwaukee store... I was thinking I'd hit someplace like that for odd trinkets to use in steampunkification...

I am fighting a massive impulse to procure a huge set of lab glassware, as I'll only need to move it in a few months. But OMvariousGs! Do want!

I'm a complete glasswear addict... I even have a nice set of oddly shaped glasswear like one would find in early chemists' shops. :)

That's hilarious. Did you know that the CDC has a preparedness blog for the zombie apocalypse?
I think the CDC is my favorite government agency.
