Once again, a crazy wonderful weekend.

Thursday, I cleaned the house, baked cupcakes, and welcomed an out-of-town guest. I planned to be out of town for the weekend but she was staying in town for the Con, so we took the opportunity to chat, frost cupcakes, and sip Scotch together until bedtime. It's a rare and wonderful thing to share the "deep end" of my Scotch collection with a fellow appreciator...

Friday, I had to work, but I wore my new, fabulous, kitchen green-and-black dress to work, even though it was probably too short and boobalicious to be "appropriate" for that. (Eh, it was the day before a holiday weekend, no one was in anyway...) As soon as the car was packed, I scurried up to Montello for the Fish Fry with teffan, kumakun , fencingkitty , and others. Oh, nummy. White Lake Fish Fry, how I have missed you! Then there was settling in and nonsense in the bar. This weekend was my 33&1/3 (i.e. 1/3 century) birthday, which amused me and was reason for the cute new dress and 33 & 1/3 cupcakes. I am sometimes easily amused. Bright green drinks were the perfect accessory and I love me a Midori sour... teffan and Demona had brought me little froggie prezzies, which was unnecessary, but awesome - I actually had not brought earrings, so the froggie earrings Demona gave me went in immediately.

Left - thirty-three and one-third cupcakes. Right - cute new dress and the 1/3 cupcake

Saturday was the first day of the event proper. I should have been working on some painting for WW, but was lazy and instead attacked my pile of urgent mending. The idea had been that the boring-ness of the mending would force me to do the necessary painting, but no such luck. :P I had brought food for lunch and, as usual, ended up having enough to feed many hungry folks and still have leftovers besides. Mostly it was salads, cheese, fruits, carrots, and other light fare, but I had a special "imported" pizza foriarroganti. It was supposed to be a sort of silly treat, but in heating it up, I nearly burnt down the Skipper cabin! There was a leak in the gas in the oven, apparently, so at one point when I checked on the pizza, there was a POOF!, a giant fireball, and the smoke detector went off. Eeep! I turned the oven off, checked all my digits and limbs and whether my dress or hair was on fire, and went to go find a different oven. o.O The rest of the day was less eventful, with more fencing, dinner in the restaurant, drinks in the bar, and games on the porch. My lesson for the event can be summed up thusly: Just because both Michael St Christian AND Gauge think something is a Good Plan does not necessarily mean it is a Bad Plan... usually, granted, but not ALWAYS. And so, that lesson in mind, it was a most lovely night. ;)

Sunday was to be more fencing, but some sprinkles limited the play and the tourneys were largely replaced with pick-up fights, which seemed agreeable to all concerned. This also limited my ability to tackle that blasted painting, so I worked on a different long-past-due but less-likely-to-be-water-damaged project that I have been avoiding out of frustration. Dinner and drinks followed, more low-key than Friday and Saturday night, excepting that I played beer pong for the first time. teffan and I talked them into letting us use non-beer malt beverages, since neither of us was over-fond of beer, so it was more properly hard lemonade pong. :P I started strong and she finished strong, so teffan and I narrowly won, but did not seem to suffer any ill effects from the adventure into a new "sport." We were not, however, so arrogant or foolhardy as to venture a second game to "defend" the table, so that probably helped.

Monday we got up earlier than I would have liked to see folks off - many folks had left on Sunday, but some die-hards remained. kumakun andfencingkitty had to depart for a family thing, but the rest of the stragglers wandered out to Sparks for lunch. Afterwards, though, we finally had to say goodbye to teffan and iarroganti . Since I had no firm obligations to keep me from doing so, I went back to the resort for the annual "pontoon drift" where folks take a pontoon and drinks to the opposite side of the lake and drift back while getting one's drunk on. :) Very relaxing and fun and more sun than I'll see all summer until Pennsic. (And even then, the sun won't touch my legs or arms, really, so this was my body's chance to stock up on Vitamin D while the getting was good.) Happily, I avoided sunburn, excepting a little pink along my hair part.

I eventually wandered back to Madison to try to play catch-up on emails and such. The bonus to having cleaned before the guest arrived on Thursday and having been gone all weekend was that the house was still nicely clean when I got back... plus there was a bottle of Balblair waiting for me on the table! :)~ Work tomorrow will be "exciting" but I may console myself with Indian for lunch. The next few weekends are a little less busy with full-weekend events and will be more consumed with WW prep... which is both good and bad, I suppose. Less in-person socialization, so therefore more productivity and less opportunity to make a nuisance of myself. *sigh* I have trouble doing things by halves, but I can use that to my advantage and just channel toward WW for a bit - gods know I have enough yet to do. But, tonight, early to bed with a Scotch and a book - tomorrow and all its real-world horrors will come all too soon.

As someone who comes in 2 shades (pale and extra crispy) I highly recommend BullFrog sunblock in the spritz bottle for the part in your hair. It doesn't seem to damage my hair and keeps me from getting the "crap I can't wear a sun hat for this activity" burn.

I think that's what we had... I just forgot to apply it there. :p
