Well, hi there... and Boar's Head
It's been a while since I was posting regularly - I partially blame facebook and partially a very busy summer and fall. I have all these half-written posts waiting to be finished and posted, I keep telling myself I will finish before I start "current" stuff. But, as that seems not to actually work as a motivator and I think the journaling is generally good for me, I am just going to try to be better about it going forward and just try too catch up as I am able on the older stuff. Or, you know, not. *sigh*

Anyway, this weekend was Boar's Head. It was a sort of off weekend for me. Usually, Boar's Head is one of my favorite events, but this year it just didn't really gel for me. I didn't sleep well (practically not at all ) on Friday night, for no discernible reason. It was raining and I sometimes get anxious about basement leakage when it rains, so maybe that was it... or that the rain was making me ache-y... or that I was trying to remember all the things I had to do/people I had to see/etc. Dunno. Anyway, the upshot was that I was exhausted and made iarroganti drive since he had to get to the event at o'stoopid early. The beginning of the morning went well - I have a new camera and that was fun to play with for a bit... but then it started telling me the memory was full at about 400 photos. So I deleted a bunch of stuff and changed the resolution to "email" and tried shooting again. This time, about 40 images in, it started whining. I reformatted the SD card and got the same issue. Frustrated, I put the toy away.

I wasn't feeling real super still but thought it might be because I was hungry. Sadly, the lukewarm pita sandwich was not terribly appetizing, so I mostly ate the bread and left about half the meat. I collected the apprentice-spawn so that mightyjesse could teach, which resulted in cries for mommy or apple juice. I knew mightyjesse does not generally give the munchkin juice, but she was adamant about getting juice or mommy, so I got her a little can of juice in a straw. (Apparently, that policy is still in effect and I was successfully conned by a 21 month old.) When Miss Em wouldn't stop trying to shake the mostly-empty can, I took it away. Unfortunately, this led to some tragedy when the ensuing foot-stomping led her to pitch headfirst off the chair. Luckily, I apparently have lightening reflexes and went from leaning down to put the can on the floor to reaching up and over the chair to catch the back of her dress 4" before she faceplanted. The scare and hitting her little foot caused some crying, but between the trauma, the tears, and it being nap time, we got her rocked to sleep pretty quickly. I put her down in the sheepie nest I'd laid out in a back hallway and decided it was time for an Aunti Eithni nap too. Nothing like a 'nuggle with a warm toddler to put you right out.

When we woke up, things were somewhat better for both of us. However, the event was mostly over at that point - I'd missed all the classes, a lot of hanging-out, most of the shopping, and the entire bidding part of the Silent auction (though at least I had managed to drop off my donations earlier in the day). I went to court which was probably the most exciting and successful part of the event. Several people I know got awards, including mightyjesse who was presented with an award that had been previously given, Demona who got a Cygnus, and I got a Saltire! For those of you Non-Northshielders, this is an award for teaching and traveling. It does not confer any precedence, but is really pretty cool and rarely conferred (only 11 others since we went Kingdom, though some were given in the Principality days). The scroll is pretty keen - it's a woodburned plank with images that would be typical for Pictish stones used to tell the "story" of the text... and the scribe stole all the research for the project from my classnotes on my website. :P It's geektastic.

Top row - King and Queen with the Compass Rose, Second Row - Cauldron (Plenty, Feast) and Boar's Head, Third Row - King and Queen give the Saltire (looking like a shield) to Eithni, Fourth Row - A Book/Book Satchel (Learning, Knowledge, traveling with books) and a Salmon (Knowledge, Jara Fishy). Scroll by Geirfold.

Afterward was dinner out at a steakhouse - a popular SCA destination - there were several other tables of SCAdians - then the long drive home in the dark and the rain. We collapsed immediately and so were not awake when zarhooie rolled in at 3AM, the silly girl. She was out again at 10:30, so I didn't see much of her at all.iarroganti and I had lunch, browsed a thrift store, and then he was off too. Apparently, I'll not be seeing him for five weeks, so I wish it had not been such a whirlwind weekend. I ended up reading away the afternoon instead of doing anything productive.

Tonight was General Meeting, which was relatively unremarkable except that, despite low attendance, we had a bunch of talkers and the meeting dragged on longer than strictly necessary. I probably should fix something for dinner, but I'm feeling sort of blah again. Maybe nachos, a shower, and an early bedtime are in order. Hopefully more posts soon and more regularly...

Sorry if I was a talker. I'll be glad to accept suggestions on what to cut/how to help meetings go faster.

Aw, sorry to hear it wasn't the best of events for you. Better luck next time.

However, yay! Wonderful scroll, and congrats. (: Well earned.

That scroll rocks!

The scroll makes it all worth it. (Of course I can say that - I wasn't there all tired out and dealing with a cranky child. Who snuggles, so that makes that worth it too.)

What a great scroll.
