2011 Meme

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
I don't think I had any significant firsts, at least not any happy ones. Oh! I joined a CSA for the first time! That was a good and delicious first.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't really make any last year. I have several for this year that I hope to keep

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yup - a few, most notably my sister had a daughter, giving me a nibling of each flavor.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Good gods, yes. Too much of that this year - so much so that it approached being the annual theme.

5. What foreign countries did you visit?
None, unless you count Mississippi. :P

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Travel. Time to read. More emotional stability.

7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The big one is April 1 - one of my oldest and best friends died. I still wish it were a really bad joke. :/ There were other important days, but that's the one that's going to stick.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Surviving my second year as WW autocrat without killing thems what really deserved killing. I had a list. A list that just begged for some nice little ticky marks. I was such a good girl.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not getting a particular scroll done in time, then needing to repair significant damage after the fact and procrastinating for months. Not getting some things done for the Laureling I was involved with. Not being prepared enough for my Pennsic classes. A variety of work-related things that I feel like a giant failure for, but suspect that are not things I had much control over anyway.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A new pavilion.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
The Wisconsin 14. corvusjoyous, for all the wonderful things she does for people, all the time. whymc, for becoming 400% more responsible when called on. dread_exfor soldiering on through school and the trials of being a public employee. teffan, for dealing admirably with the challenges this year threw at her.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Walker, the Republicans, CMS.

14. Where did most of your money go?
The usual - books, fabric, travel, SCA toys.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I won an iPad. I got to go to Gulf Wars.

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Not really a music person, so I don't know.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
A little sadder - there has been a lot of time for reflection and regret lately.

b) thinner or fatter?
About the same, despite my efforts to eat better.

c) richer or poorer?
Poorer due to inflation and stagnant pay. :P

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Relax. Read.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worry. Over-think things. Over-analyze things.

20. How will you spend Christmas?
Eve with my mama in her cabin in the woods, Day with my dad's family.

21. What was your favourite month of 2011?
Hard to say. I was very busy almost all year long. May was a pretty good month, I think.

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
Sort of. I finally convinced a fellow for whom I had a long-standing affection that he should date me, if that counts.

23. How many one-night stands?

24. What was your favourite TV programme?
Daily Show/Colbert Report.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. Several people I have lost some respect/affection for, but no one where it rises to the level of hate.

26. What was the best book you read?
The Parasol Protectorate Series - utter candy, but so much fun.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Again, not a music girl.

28. What did you want and get?
I had sort of abstractly wanted a tablet and got one as a contest prize.

29. What did you want and not get?
To get out of the country. Various other things I am not going to analyze in a poll.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
I don't recall seeing any particularly great ones, but I don't go to many films.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 33 and spent the weekend hanging with dread_ex, enjoying booze, manuscripts, and excellent food. My general celebration was at ARRG in May to mark my 33 & 1/3 birthday.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting to spend more quality time with people dear to me.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Dabbling in Italian and Victorian clothing for special events. Otherwise, not really a fashionista.

34. What kept you sane?
*laughs* THAT'S a hope I gave up on long ago. Scotch, if anything.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
In a strange way, Colbert. That man does such ridiculous, horrifying, and beautiful things.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The protests in Madison this winter - they were awesome and foreshadowed the Occupy movement.

37. Who did you miss?
Too many to list without crying.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I'd met her before, but I got to spend more time with Kyriel this year. Hopefully I will be a corrupting influence on her. In a good way, of course.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
Cherish the time you have with friends and loved ones. Too soon, and without warning, you may not be able to do so again.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year -
Nope. The year has been too varied, there's no good way to sum it up.
Current Mood: nostalgicnostalgic
