What's wrong with this picture?
Nummy homemade salsa, good fresh chips, tasty burritos... but no dining companion.

Tonight I was to meet a friend of mine for dinner at 7PM. He's... not known for promptness, so I'd brought a book and was not surprised when he was not there at 6:55... or 7:00...or 7:10... or even 7:15, thought at that point, I started taunting him on Facebook, since he lives just around the corner and might have gotten distracted on teh intartoobz, thinking he still had time to get there and not be TOO late. By 7:30, with no response, I just went ahead and ordered, since I'm a slow eater anyway and was starving...  though not so much after I took a call at 7:37 when another friend called me to say that Blue would not be coming. He had suffered a major heart attack around 6:30 that evening and had not survived.

I just don't know what to say or think. Blue was such a kind, good fellow, always willing to lend a helping hand or a sympathetic ear, always up for mischief or hard work with the same level of enthusiasm and good humor. Life had dealt him some nasty kicks in recent years, but he was ever good natured and kind to his friends. To say he will be missed just sounds hollow and flat. The world is just not quite the same without his sly remarks and distinctive, infectious laugh...

As reasons for missing a dinner engagement go, this is a good one, but I'll always wish I'd seen him this one more time. No, that's not true. I'll always wish I'd have seen him hundreds of more times, that our usual place would be forced to serve us unreasonable amounts of salsa for years into the future, that his laugh would be heard clear across the campground or the dance floor until we all were old.

Ride well, my friend. Your kinsmen mourn, but Valhalla stands waiting.

I got the news later last night, and I'm still having a hard time believing it. On an intellectual level, I know he was a heavy smoker, and medically it wasn't a shocker. But his joie-de-vivre should have made him immortal.

I agree, he was an amazing guy, and it is a shame he had to leave this soon.

After I heard the news, I started thinking. And what came to mind is that beautiful, infectious, full laugh of his. It was impossible to hear Blue be happy like that, and not be happy with him. He certainly did know how to live, and how to experience and spread joy.

It's at Shava's for now. She will keep it unless someone else would like to adopt.

Sounds like he was an awesome guy...a guy who probably would be amused by the "late for dinner" joke.

Hugs and luv.
