Birthday fun!
My birthday was yesterday and it was really quite good. It was my 35th, and being a "milestone-ish" number, I had originally planned on having a big shin-dig. However, I simply was not in the mood and so ended up just inviting a bunch of people out to brunch at Samba, the local Brazilian grill meat-fest. We met at 11AM, which meant I got to sleep in a bit before meat and mimosas, which was nice. Things were a little cramped since I had neglected to count kids as occupying a proper seat - I'm still thinking about the local bebes as being on laps or in high chairs, but each of them had their own seat, so we had to recalibrate a bit. There was a total of 27 people there, so we entirely occupied the party room. (I need to remember for future reference that the room really does comfortably top out at about 18...) I got some funny cards and a nice present fro damej which will help with my goal to put a greater priority on reading. :)

A few of us dawdled after brunch until it was time for some folks to head over to fighter practice and for me to head over to my belated family Christmas. My brother had been ill on Christmas, so this was the opportunity to have the Hetzel festivities. My dad just had surgery and so was little muted and the volume in general was limited since my niece was napping through most of the visit, but a quiet little gathering suited me fine. In an odd admission, my dad mentioned that the Cookie Monster-esque robe he got me for Christmas was a freebie from the local Cost Cutters. o.O At least that explains why he thought I'd like it... My brother, on the other hand, actually demonstrated that he's been paying attention. He got me one of those age-your-own whiskey kits. I'm not convinced that wood chips will turn the moonshine into something super tasty, but I am more than happy to pay with it. For SCIENCE! After some small talk, my brother and my dad left by three. I stuck around to torture the niblings for a little while but headed out around four when it looked like all of my sister's household was going down for a nap.

I got back to my house to join teffan and Kay, who had decided to stay the night again since the roads back to the Twin Cities were icky and neither of them needed to be back early on Monday. We thought about going to a movie since none of us had seen The Hobbit, but punked out and chose to sit around talking, drinking margaritas, and watching Downton Abbey instead.

All in all, a very pleasant way to spend one's birthday!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Wait. You're 35? Oh my gosh! You were 3 when I joined the SCA!

I feel old.

Sorry! If it helps, my mom says I've been 40 since I was 14. :P

I was going to wish you a happy belated birthday at the Stock Pavilion, but then I failed to see you there so now I'll just wish you a happy belated birthday here.

Yeah, I was making a desperate bid to finish a dress for this weekend and failing. :P I should have just come to practice, but I was still under the delusion I might get to "wearable" if not "done" at that point. Also, my road had not yet been plowed. :P

Thanks for the wishes!
