Looking Eastward again...
This Friday, the Met sent out a notice to its members about a new exhibit for this Spring.

This stunning survey, anchored by many of the most celebrated works of the Impressionist era, will illustrate the extent to which artists responded to the dictates of fashion between the 1860s ... and the mid-1880s. ... Alongside both masculine and feminine costumes, a full complement of period photographs and illustrations will serve to vivify the ongoing dialogue between fashion and art, and afford a sense of the late nineteenth-century Parisian milieu...

Um. Yes, please!

I'm certainly going to go and I think I have talked my momma into coming with me. :)

I wholeheartedly recommend it. You can get pretty reasonable flights from Chicago and while the admission fee is steep ($25!) I can't say I felt shortchanged. If you intend to stay in town more than one day, the annual membership for people living more than 200 miles away is only $60, which gives you free admission to the Met and the Cloisters, invites to members-only events, and a discount at the bookstore/giftshop/website. If you want to go, just let me know and I can give you some pointers.
