Wardrobe update

This is an entirely self-indulgent shopping-related post. Feel free to skip if you're not interested in cute shoes and tales of epic bargain hunting...

I had decided to do some wardrobe updates because my work wear was getting pretty sad and even my "casual" clothes had sunk to pretty shabby levels. I had NOT intended on doing all that shopping in one fell swoop this weekend, but when I went out on Friday, I discovered that most of the stores were having massive clearance sales on the autumn/winter wear that tends to come in the color families that most appeal to me, so I dove on in. I ended up buying eight new tops, three pairs of trousers, a really cute dress, dress socks, a few pairs of work-appropriate shoes, a leather suit jacket and a stove. (The stove was not really part of the initial mission, but while in Sears, I noted that they were having a Presidents' Day sale and since my stove is down to two semi-functional burners, it was time...) Barring the appliance purchase, I don't think I spent more than $200 total, because I am Queen of the Clearance Rack. For serious - Penney's had all their clearance marked down to $2-$9 (the actually real leather jacket was $4) and Gordman's was taking 33% off all the already reduced clearance items, so things were ridiculously cheap. I think the dress was the only thing I didn't get off the clearance rack, but it was at Marshall's so it was already marked down off the "suggested retail price" and only $20. I want to be less frumpy, but I'm still a frightfully frugal little froggie, so this made me happy!

Some things I learned while out shopping:
* While I am never going to be the fashion plate my momma wishes I would be, I apparently have very highly fashionable and/or expensive taste in shoes. I don't think I picked up a pair that made me go "ooooh!" that was not originally priced under $70! :P I'll spring for $80 shoes, but only if they are combat boots I know will last me for 7 years. (On the other hand, the $75 Sketchers that I had dismissed as too pricey last October on clearance for under $20? Yes, please. :))
* There are a disturbing number of skinny jeans/skinny pants out on the market. I know they are fashionable and everything, but... no. Just, NO.
* Boot cut pants are apparently the style that looks "sexy" to me and straight leg ones look professional to boring.
* WTH is with the shiny pants? There were a massive variety of pants that were sparkly or shiny or had plastic-y animal prints on them. Just plain weird.
* There are NO reasonable black pumps currently on the market. They are all either the weird mutant-foot looking platforms, have 14" spindly heels, or are unforgivably ugly. Seriously? I just want a pair of about 2.5 inch matte black chunky heels without mirrors or flowers or tiny singing gnomes. Nice, plain, basic. You know, so they will go with more than one outfit. :P

So, yeah, mostly shopping win. We'll see if cute shoes help my crankiness at work at all...

Tiny singing gnomes. #win </p>

I had a fashion-focused weekend as well, one which involved me borrowing a very sexy pair of black leather stilettos that I now covet, so I will be acquiring my own pair. Only my own pair will fit; the borrowed ones turn out o have been a full size too small, which might explain why I still can't feel several of my toes 50 hours later! Lol

Oh, poor piggies! I hope they recover soon and that you can find the heels of your dreams!

Ibuprofin and my crocs are helping, and I have already sourced the exact same shoes from an online merchant. They don't even cost as much as the ones you were coveting! :)

I'm not sure coveting is quite the right word. I thought some of them were pretty, but then was immediately repulsed by the ridiculous price. :p Attracted to, sure, but I'm not losing any sleep over leaving those overpriced items behind in the shelf!

Ah, I remember the days when $80 shoes were expensive, sigh. Since plantar fasciitis, the custom orthotics are $80/pair and the shoes on sale usually cost in the $150-200 range. But they last forever.

Ack! Stop "helping"! ;) I should be done with the acquisition of clothing for at least another year, thank goodness!

Oh... oh, my word...

At least I am consistent - lust = >$300 price tag...

I know, right.

Wow. Digging that heel.

On behalf of roommates past and present but mostly future: Yay Stove! ;)

Also, I like bootcut too. Footwear is more of a problem, I have exactly zero cute footwear to wear to Inferno past a single pair of serviceable black ankle-boots. I do believe there might be another Zappos order in my future. ;)

Ugh. Inferno wear is a completely different issue. :P This was just addressing the major issues in my work and casual-but-not-slovenly levels of clothing. I *may* have found a pair of acceptable Inferno/steampunk boots - they are enroute via ShoeBuy. We'll see. I tried getting a pair from Zappos that just did not fit right - they were granny boots that were just too big in the ankle. :(

heh, my clothes are nearly all casual, some are slovenly, and I can't afford to do much about it for now (but i've been getting some nice hand-me-downs lately!).
I have a whole wishlist full of shoes on Zappos, they seem a better investment. :/

Black Earth's shoes store tends to have less new!stylish and more classically stylish shoes, but they are very expensive. (Very sturdy though. My dress/dance shoes from there have lasted close to 15 years.)

I think I'm good for now after this blitz, but thanks for the lead!
