No real surprise here...
Except, perhaps, that it took quite this long.

Still, it seems a milestone to commemorate: Today, after a long, frustrating day, I caught sight of myself in the mirror to find - sticking straight up like it was giving the day the one fingered salute - my very first grey hair. :P

Yeah, Yeah...

I was thirteen, on a date, sitting on the rocks at the beach house, when my mother walks up behind me and suddenly exclaims "You've got a grey hair!" and proceeds to pluck it out to show us...

You will be lovely with salt and pepper, and you will be stunning with a silver mane.

I'm actually hoping for a stripe.

Cool! I always think of stripes in relation to Robin Owen's books where stripes are a sign of magical power.

A stripe would be super cute on you, although you'd be lovely, as noted, with all white/silver. :)

Our Japanese exchange student developed a few white hairs while she was here (no more than six or seven), but she was sixteen and horrified and plucked them all out. What was neat is that they were mostly black with about two inches of white at the root.

A stripe or a small patch are both striking

My white hairs started at about 24. (thanks Mom for your genes) When it's not just randomly scattered strands, and instead manifests in some nice chunks or stripes ala Anne Bancroft, then maybe I will let it out. Until then you'll never see it! :)

I saw my first in the mirror during my first full year of teaching: fitting! I've got a salt-in-a-lot-of-pepper thing going, and I actually quite like it! :)

Welcome to the club! :)

The nice thing about gray hair is that it is actually thicker (the strands have a larger diameter).

Yeah, that will be really useful too, since my hair is so blasted fine. :)

In my experience, this means that you'll begin to go bald soon, so get ready for that... er... or perhaps you may experience a different outcome... :)

We'll hope not. :p I'm not adverse to most cosmetic signs of aging, but I think I'd draw the line at balding.

Does this mean you're becoming "mature"? ;)

Hm. I don't think it works that way, actually. I started to go grey at 17, and my hair is now almost completely white. I don't *wanna* be mature! *pout* *foot stamp*</p>

Which reminds me, time to touch up the roots. Again.

Well, my momma always called me prematurely 40 at 14, so I suppose behavior canceled out the greys?
