Serving the Knowne World...
Some overlooked bits of Pennsic...

For various reasons, I did very little in camp/with the Kingdom, but I was completely Volunteer Girl this war. I did a bunch of shifts and had a really good time. I think I was thinking of it more this year both because of the free time and because I was not being baked out of my head.  One of the more fun shifts was doing security with whymc. The last time I did security, it was a looong time ago and they didn't trust peons with the golf cart so we were walking site. They let us have a golf cart this year, though, and it was pretty cool to zoom around site - we even found corners of the bog that neither of us had seen before and checked out the proposed lands for Northshield next year. We even got to be genuinely helpful a few times!

In a very different context of helping!, I got a squishy story from a friend. Turns out that some drug-related advice I gave her got passed on to someone else on the same med and quite possibly saved his life. Very cool. I like my job, but it is so neat to hear the stories about when I actually have a real and positive impact on someone's life. :)

Another fun little data point of Making the Knowne World a Better Place - someone posted on the Pennsic Facebook page and cited by 60 second class on Busker's Row as the best class of the War. :D Teaching as performance art FTW! I've taught the EMVS* class for a few years, I think I need a new one for next year. I'm thinking about leather toggles... I'd like to do whipcording, but that is really a five-ten minute class and while it lends itself well to the Artisan's Row tents, it is not as good for the on-the-fly class. I may try it anyway - it's a fun skill and there are handy tree branches over by VIking-U-Like.

Anyway, three little bits o' win to make for a happier war! :)

Where is the new proposed site for Northshield? Their populace camp was next to mine this year.

Just curious

Nice! I was there in E1. Were you folks closer to the road to Pennsic U or closer to the Interstate?

There are several possible plans, including having NS Royal stay in E2 and having Populace in E1, the B blocks, or some combination of the two.

We were the tiny camp this year on the corner of the Chandler and the strand. (to the left if you were looking at NS Populace) that had the large green and white stripped pavilion. My tent is always the the on right on the corner

We are usually a much bigger camp than we were this year.

Ack! I must have walked past your camp at least four times a day! Such is the problem of only knowing folks on teh intarwebz - I may have seen you and never even known!

You didn't just "possibly saved his life" - your information got passed on to certain Big Drug Companies (*cough* Novartis *cough*) and they changed their labelling - and the cancer information page of the people who have that form of cancer also got added to, so potentially you affected hundreds of lives.

:) Even better, but I didn't want to make it out to be more than what I was certain of... On the other hand, additional warm fuzzies are always a good thing.
