Changes, inside and out...
So, on top of everything else going crazy this week, there has been some Quality Family Drama wherein BOTH of my grandparents got to spend some time inpatient at the hospital. The family dynamic is... tense, we'll say, and the only other family member with solid medical experience lives in Montana, so I drove out to Milwaukee on Wednesday to put eyes on the situation.  I'll not bore you with the details, many of which are still unfolding, but the visit spawned an interesting incident.

My grandfather is slipping into Alzheimer's and is sometimes lucid, sometimes not so much. He had trouble naming his daughters in the afternoon, but then later was calling me by name. At one point he looked over and demanded "Hey! Jeanie! Why do you look so different?" I've been trying to dress in clothes that, you know, actually fit and flatter me and I guess if it's noticeable enough to my 83 year old demented grandfather, I'm doing something right. :p My grandma is still sharp as a tack, though, and she sort of squinted at me and said, "Nooo... There's something else too..." and I had to admit that it might have something to do with the fact that I'm just happier these days... plus the joys of New Relationship Energy. :) That was an interesting conversation to dive into since I was pretty sure she would not be thrilled with the circumstances, but she finally decreed that if it made me look so glowing, it must be a good thing. I think that's as close as I'm going to get to hearing her say she approves.

Hospice always throws the family into a tizzy, even if it isn't the Death Watch. I'm sorry for the Alzheimer's. Its hard to watch someone slip away like that.

You have looked both happier and just more at peace lately. I could see it in the pictures from Iceland, and I saw it in person at Bardstock. I can still see it in the pictures from GNC. Whatever combination of factors is contributing to this keep it up. It makes my heart happy to see you looking so well.

Thanks. :) There are no words for how good it was for me to go to India. I got a LOT of things sorted while I was there and came back with the commitment to fix a lot more. It's still a work in progress, but things have been coming together for me this last year.

I'm glad for the things that are going well, and sorry for your grandparents' health issues and the surrounding Quality Family Drama. I know you will handle both with strength, compassion and common sense.
